Religion is Bad for You
It damages your brain. We form new connections in our brains when we think. Religion encourages you not to think.
It causes you to make short-sighted decisions. How can religious conservatives justify their belief that using stem cells to help cure diseases is not what their God would want? Were they not given a free will? Would their God not want all of his offspring to have the right to a medically sound life. Are they willing to see people suffer and die because of their religious beliefs? We should not follow these narrow-minded, stone-age Neanderthals.
Most wars throughout history have been religous wars waged over whose god is most powerful:
The toll of death and suffering is incalculable. Think of the Christian crusades (convert them or kill them), Protestants and Catholics in Northern Ireland, Israelis and Arabs. What do these have in common? Killing the “infidels” in the name of God! What kind of God would want this?
To avoid the 99% extinction rate, we must shed this antiquated “god” idea:
We must unite in defending life from an array of real civilization-destroying problems, e.g., asteroids, global warming and diseases. We are living in a temperate time (between Ice Ages), and don’t have much time to unite and protect ourself. Based on mitochondrial DNA, we are all brothers and sisters. What keeps us from acting upon this fact is nationalism, religion, and governments.
Why should we care about an asteroid or a comet heading towards earth? God will save us. Why should we care about global warming? God will save us. Why should we care about pollution that is destroying the land, oceans, rivers and air? God will save us. Why should we care about overpopulation? God will save us.
Will God save us? No. There is no God. We must take responsibility for our actions. While this may seem like a frightening prospect, we can turn this around and take this challenge to improve this world. The benefits are enormous! Our minds will grow along with our satisfaction of finally coming of age as a civilization.
